Imperial Notes Fundraising Project
Joshua Abraham Norton, declared himself Emperor Norton I, Emperor of the United States in 1859. Norton, in his eccentric
and resourceful way, issued his own scrip and promissory notes, which some local establishments accepted as a form of currency.
The Imperial Council of San Francisco shares a connection to Emperor Norton through our founder, his “widow”, Empress I Jose Sarria. We honor his legacy by raising money for charity and promoting local businesses through an "Imperial Notes” fundraiser.
The Imperial Notes can be used as coupons at many local businesses for discounts. (See participating businesses below).
Sales of these printed notes will benefit the Monarchs Charity Fund, providing support to such local charities as (but not limited to): GSA Network, LGBT Asylum Project, Women’s Building, Community Forward, Richmond Ermet Aid Foundation, and Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center.
Imperial Notes can be purchased for $5 each or five Notes for $20 at Imperial Council of San Francisco Fundraisers as
listed at on our Events Page.
