Watch ‘50 Years of Fabulous

$3.99 on Vimeo

50 Years of Fabulous recounts the rich history of the Imperial Council, the oldest LGBT charity organization in the world. Founded in San Francisco by renowned activist, drag queen and performer Jose Sarria (the first openly gay man to run for political office), the Council has helped shape LGBT life and social history in San Francisco and beyond throughout the last five decades.

“José Julio Sarria will be inducted into the Palm Springs Walk of Stars this December. It will be the culmination of a monthslong tribute to the LGBTQ rights pioneer in the Southern California city.

On October 11, which also happens to be National Coming Out Day, the José Sarria Pop-Up Museum will open to the public inside Palm Springs' historic Welwood Murray Memorial Library. It is set to close December 14, three days after a gala 100th Jubilee celebration for Sarria is to be held at the library Sunday, December 11.”

Third Round of LGBTQ Honorees Selected for San Francisco’s Rainbow Honor Walk

In February 2022, the Rainbow Honor Walk announced its full slate of 24 history-making LGBTQ pioneers to be honored with sidewalk tributes in the city’s Castro District. On the list is Emperor VII After Norton, Bob Ross (1934 – 2003), co-founder and publisher of the Bay Area Reporter, the oldest continuously published LGBTQ publication in the United States, political figure, and philanthropist. The Bob Ross Foundation, under the direction of Tom Horn, has donated $6000 to Rainbow Honor Walk. They are currently in a fundraising campaign to pay for these additional 24 plaques and contributions are welcome. To join the list of supporters, click here.
